To achieve the right balance, they depend on a concept called the fragrance pyramid. A fragrance pyramid is a structured model representing a perfume’s scent evolution over time, divided into three layers based on volatility: top, middle, and base notes. The middle note is considered the heart of the scent. This pyramid helps visualize how scents transition from light, initial aromas to longer-lasting, deeper ingredients, ensuring a balanced composition that shifts as it evaporates. The following gives a detailed description of each layer of the pyramid:
- Top (light weight molecules) Notes (5–15 min): The initial hook, light, and, refreshing scent, such as citrus, herbs, and light fruits. They provide the first impression and evaporate quickly. Popular notes include lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit, lime, magnolia, and peppermint.
